Anna Moyer

Assistant Professor

Department of Educational Leadership, Policy & Technology Studies

University of Alabama

I am a quantitative and mixed-methods researcher working at the intersection of education policy and leadership. I am primarily interested in how educational organizations recruit, retain, and develop effective teachers and school leaders. My work has been published in journals such as Educational Researcher and Educational Administration Quarterly.

I use statewide administrative data, survey data, and interview data to conduct policy-relevant research on educators' career trajectories (including their pathways to the principalship), assistant principals, and educator labor markets. I partner with state departments of education as a research affiliate with the Tennessee Education Research Alliance,  the Michigan Education Research Institute, the University of Houston Educational Research Center, and the Alabama State Department of Education. I currently serve as a Design Team member for the Alabama Principal Leadership Development System (APLDS), where I advise on the implementation of statewide performance evaluation systems for principals and assistant principals.

I hold a Ph.D. in Education Policy and Leadership from Vanderbilt University and an M.A. in Education Policy from Teachers College, Columbia University. Prior to graduate school, I was a middle school social studies and literacy teacher in rural Louisiana and Nashville, Tennessee.
